dr. Lana Unwanah as Head of Disease Prevention and Control Division PD SIK Yogyakarta City Health Office said, Monkeypox (Mpox) is a disease caused by Monkeypox (MPXV). This disease can be mild with symptoms lasting around 2 – 4 weeks, but can develop into severe to death (Case Fatality Rate 3 – 6%).
Based on the WHO report as of June 30, 2024, several key findings stated that based on sexual orientation data, around 85.8% (30,514 of the 35,550 cases observed) occurred in the group of men who have sex with men (MSM). Around 51.9% of cases (18,628 of the 35,861 cases that had been tested for HIV) had a positive HIV status. And as many as 83.8% of cases (19,102 of the 22,801 cases reported for transmission methods) were transmitted through sexual intercourse.
Mpox transmission occurs through direct contact with infected animals or humans or through indirect contact.
Mpox transmission can occur through direct contact with lesions or body fluids through kissing, touching, oral, vaginal or anal penetration with someone infected with Mpox. Indirect transmission can occur through contaminated objects, such as the patient’s bed. (*/)
