AGRICULTURAL INNOVATION – UNY introduces the innovation of the IoT (Internet of Things) plant watering system. This system, which works automatically, uses sensors, actuators, and internet connections to optimize the plant watering process.
With this system, people can monitor soil conditions, air humidity, and sunlight in real-time, then automatically set the schedule and amount of water needed by plants
Dr. Eng. Sarwo Pranoto, S.T., M.Eng., from Department of Electrical Engineering Education, Faculty of Engineering, UNY explained that the implementation of this automatic watering system will not only save time and energy, but also increase the efficiency of water use. In the context of modern agriculture, this efficiency is very important to ensure the sustainability of natural resources.
“With a more integrated system, members of Women Farmer Club Mawar I can focus on managing harvests and product innovation, without being burdened by the time-consuming watering process,” said Sarwo, recently.
Sarwo further revealed that the IoT plant watering system supported by new renewable energy is an innovative solution for modern agriculture, so it is expected to increase agricultural productivity in its area while minimizing food shortages, irrigation ecosystems and partnerships with the community.
In addition to introducing plant watering innovations, UNY also provides training on how to process chili harvests into packaged chili sauce products. This training is a strategic step to increase the economic value of their agricultural products.
In fact, the assistance also covers aspects of packaging and marketing, including providing training on determining selling prices and labeling product packaging, as well as marketing strategies using social media (*/)
