CHOIR – Atma Jaya Yogyakarta University (UAJY) Student Choir succeeded in achieving the brilliant achievement of entering as the Grand Prize Finalist at The 1st Thailand International Choral Festival 2024 which took place at the Thailand Cultural Center, Bangkok from 3 to 6 September 2024. This event is a competition The first international choir held by the Thailand Choral Association in collaboration with the Bandung Choral Society.
In this international event, Student Choir of UAJY sent 35 students from various faculties and succeeded in bringing home various awards including: Grand Prize Finalist, Winner of Mixed Youth Category, Winner of Folklore Category. Excellent Male Soloist was won by William Suramas Tulak Lolobua, a Civil Engineering student class of 2021 and . Emerging Conductor was won by Ignasius Axel Cokrodiharjo, an Informatics Engineering student class of 2021
Axel, one of the participants revealed that he and his team has managed to win in two categories, namely Folklore and Mixed Youth. Folklore contains regional songs, which this year brought songs entitled “Baya le Wei” and “Oh Ading Koh”.
“Meanwhile, for the Mixed Youth category, we performed the songs “Atsalums” and “My God Is a Rock”. Student Choir of UAJY’s performance this time also brought folk songs from Latvia, semi-gospel and Dayak folk songs which ultimately managed to amaze the judges and audience,” explained Axel in his official statement, Friday (20/9/2024).
This competition is divided into two sessions, namely the Mixed Youth Category and Folklore Category, both of which will be held on September 4 2024 from morning to evening.
“So we really didn’t have time to rest at that time,” he said.
