SATAY — Yogyakarta is famous for its culinary specialties. One of them is Satay Klathak Pak Bari located on East Imogiri Road Number 5, Wonokromo, Pleret, Bantul. This satay stall is crowded with visitors almost every day. Especially after it was used as shooting film location. Therefore, it is not surprising that this stall is a favorite of officials, artists and celebrities who are visiting Jogja.
The owner of the Satay Klathak stall, Subari, who is familiarly called Pak Bari, said that the satay stall business was started by his father in 1992. At that time, Bari was still 15 years old. Previously, the satay stall business was in Wonokromo Market and only moved to the location where it currently sells in May 2010.
“Initially, it was already known to local residents, then it spread to artists from DIY who often brought guests, and finally it became a boom since 2010 until now. I didn’t expect to be famous before opening, many people were willing to queue, even though I only started selling at 18.30 until it ran out,” he said recently.
Bari admitted that every day he could slaughter 2 to 3 goats himself to be processed into satay. He bought the goats from local farmers. However, there were excess orders and insufficient goat meat supplies, so he then ordered goats from farmers from Temanggung, Magelang, and the surrounding areas.
Not only is it a legendary culinary, satay klathak has been designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. Therefore, this culinary is becoming increasingly well-known among tourists visiting Jogja.
“I myself am happy because satay klathak has been recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. Thus, the culinary of Satay Klathak is increasingly known to tourists,” said Bari.
Bari admitted that there are many stalls around his stall that sell similar menus, but he admitted that he was not worried.
One of the specialties of Pak Bari’s Satai Klathak is the processing of meat that feels tender and the slices of meat are quite large.
The dish is even more delicious when eaten warm – with a plate of white rice and hot tea. This stall opens from the afternoon until the evening.
The price for a plate of Sate Klathak is IDR 27 thousand with two skewers and is already equipped with Goat Gulai sauce. (*/)
