MILK — UHT (Ultra High Temperature) milk has become a popular choice for many people because of its practicality and ease of storage. Behind its extraordinary durability, UHT milk also requires special attention to maintain its freshness.
Although it looks the same, UHT milk is different from pasteurized milk. For that, it is necessary to recognize the storage procedures. UHT (Ultra High Temperature) milk is a type of milk that has gone through a high heating process for a short time (2-4 seconds) at a temperature of 135-150°C. This process aims to kill bad bacteria and extend the shelf life of milk.
For that, UHT milk has the advantage of being stored at room temperature before being opened. Here’s how to store UHT milk properly.
Unopened UHT Milk:
• Store in a cool, dry place, and avoid direct sunlight.
• The ideal storage temperature is 20-25°C.
• Pay attention to the expiration date on the packaging. UHT milk can generally last for 6-12 months before being opened.
Opened UHT Milk:
• Immediately move it to the refrigerator after opening.
• Make sure the packaging is tightly closed to prevent contamination.
• Store on the middle shelf of the refrigerator, avoid the refrigerator door because the temperature is unstable.
• Opened UHT milk should be consumed within 3-5 days.
Keep in mind:
• Do not move opened UHT milk from the refrigerator to room temperature, then put it back in the refrigerator. This can accelerate the damage to the milk.
• If you want to heat UHT milk, pour enough into a pan and heat over low heat. Avoid heating milk directly from the packaging.
• Use opened UHT milk as soon as possible to maintain its quality and taste.
By following the correct storage method, UHT milk can be enjoyed safely and for a long time. (*)
