HEIRLOOM — The Yogyakarta City Government again held a Jamasan procession or cleaning of the heirloom Spear “KyaiWijayaMukti” on Thursday (25/7/2024) morning at the Yogyakarta City Hall Complex.
The jamasan procession of the heirloom which is more than a century old began with a procession of the Kyai Wijaya Mukti Spear which was taken and started from its resting place, namely in the Yogyakarta Mayor’s Room.
Acting Mayor of Yogyakarta Sugeng Purwanto also accompanied the taking of the heirloom by the abdi dalem, which was then taken out around the City Hall complex escorted by troops or “bergada”. Then, upon arriving at the City Hall yard, the heirloom was cleaned or washed by the Regional Secretary of the City of Yogyakarta Aman Yuriadijaya.
The washing process uses lime juice and is rubbed using wood fibers. Then, the heirloom is doused with clean water and dried. After that, the heirloom is smeared with a special liquid called “warangan” and perfume. When the heirloom is believed to be clean and dry, the object is brought back to the Mayor’s room.
Kyai Wijaya Mukti Spear was made in 1921 during the era of King Sri Sultan HB VIII and was handed over by King Sri Sultan HB X to the Yogyakarta City Government on June 7, 2000 along with the 53rd Anniversary of the Yogyakarta City Government. Since the handover, the Kyai Wijaya Mukti Spear has been stored in the Yogyakarta Mayor’s office and has always been cared for, and cleaned routinely at certain moments.
Head of the Yogyakarta City Culture Office Yetti Martanti said that cleaning the Kyai Wijaya Mukti Spear contains important values. That a leader can run the government and take care of the City of Yogyakarta even better.
“In line with the concept of “Manunggaling Kawulâ-Gusti” (Unity of the People with the Leader –editors), a leader must be able to be a role model, in order to run the government well. In carrying out his duties, the Leader together with all employees work together in providing services and realizing the welfare of the people of the City of Yogyakarta,” said Yetti. (*?)
