ILLEGAL CIGARETTES — The distribution of illegal cigarettes in Yogyakarta City is increasingly rampant. In connection with this, the Yogyakarta City Government has intensified raids on grocery stores suspected of selling illegal cigarettes.
Head of the Investigation Section of the Yogyakarta City Satpol PP Ahmad Hidayat said that the joint operation is routinely carried out once a month, as a preventive measure in combating the distribution of illegal cigarettes in the Yogyakarta City area.
“The operation to Combat Illegal Cigarettes is also a form of socialization so that traders in Yogyakarta City do not sell illegal cigarettes. Earlier we also visited a shop that was found in a previous operation, and now it is no longer selling them,” he said when met after the operation.
According to him, the routine and massive operation to Combat Illegal Cigarettes can have an impact on public compliance and order, especially traders, not to buy or sell illegal cigarettes.
“In one year there are 10 joint operations to Combat Illegal Cigarettes, it can be said that we hold it once a month except in January and December. In the past year, we have also rarely found the circulation or sale of illegal cigarettes in the Yogyakarta City area. The last discovery was not in a grocery store that sells cigarettes, but in a food stall,” he said. (*)
