CARNIVAL — The Wayang Jogja Night Carnival (WJNC) event will be held again on October 7 as the peak of the 268th anniversary of the City of Yogyakarta. In this 9th episode, WJNC carries the theme Gatotkaca Wirajaya.
The Creative Team of WJNC #9 Raden Mas Kristiadi stated that the theme of Gatotkaca Wirajaya is a manifestation of the heroic figure of the wayang figure Gatotkaca to defend truth and justice. Later, it will be described how the story of Gatotkaca began from his birth to his death in the Baratayudha war.
“WJNC, which is routinely held every year, also has a positive impact on the community, especially in the process of developing the creativity of artists and cultural actors in 14 Kemantren of the City of Yogyakarta. For the past nine years, WJNC has been in process and in the future its impact must be wider,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Yogyakarta City Tourism Office, Muhammad Zandaru Budi, explained that WJNC was first held in 2016, and since 2021 it has been included in the list of TOP 101 Karisma Event Nusantara of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf).
“In 2024, this WJNC is very special because it has succeeded in entering the list of TOP 10 Karisma Event Nusantara Kemenparekraf. Of course, this is our shared achievement and pride, where the WJNC event is an attraction that can further increase the tourism and creative economy in the city of Yogyakarta,” he explained.
WJNC is basically a people’s party whose main character is street art, so that community involvement and participation are very important in it. Likewise with the presence of tourists, both domestic and foreign, to be able to directly feel the excitement of WJNC. (*/)
