This tradition reflects the richness of culture and noble values held firmly by the Pakualaman Duchy.
History and Meaning of Tradition
The Ganti Dwaja Ceremony has been held for a long time, believed to have existed since the era of the founder of the Pakualaman Duchy, Paku Alam I. This tradition symbolizes the changing of guard duties and security guards of the Pakualaman Duchy.
This ceremony is usually held every 35 days, coinciding with Saturday Kliwon in the Javanese calendar. Led directly by the Crown Prince, this ceremony involves two soldiers: Bregada Lombok Abang and Bregada Plangkir.
