COFFEE — It seems like everyone loves coffee. So do the members of the D’Cinnamons Band. In their daily lives, they admit that they are almost never without coffee. Every time they have the opportunity to gather, whether in performances or practice activities, coffee always accompanies them.
D’Cinnamons’ musical character, which is dominated by acoustic instrumentation, with simple, folky lyrics, is the perfect treat to accompany the pleasure of sipping a cup of coffee.
The world of coffee, which is closely related to intimate gatherings, is very much in line with D’Cinnamons’ mission to always enjoy a musical atmosphere that is closer to its listeners (intimate).
This song was inspired by the experience of vocalist/guitarist Diana Widoera (Dodo) herself, from a moment at a small coffee shop in Bandung. There, as usual, coffee lovers accidentally gathered. However, unlike other coffee shops – where people usually sit alone, enjoying entertainment from their respective cellphones or laptops – here there are no sofas, no wi-fi, and the chairs are only made of hard cement.
“But what happens is that behind this simplicity, coffee is not just a taste, a place, and the internet. But it awakens the most basic human calling, which is the call to socialize,” said Dodo convincingly.
In Dodo’s views, humans are social creatures, as written in elementary school books. But what happened to the phenomenon of coffee shops/cafes that are mushrooming today? People work with their own laptops. Without greeting each other. Only chatting if they know each other.
“It’s not the coffee’s fault… so whose fault or what? This is where the ticklish story begins,” continued Dodo.
Dodo revealed, from a small coffee shop, with an open bar concept, but selling delicious coffee. It’s even more delicious because there we sit very close together. There is no distance. So what happens is greeting each other.
Starting from greeting each other, then telling stories, asking questions, making small talk, chatting, daydreaming, inviting laughter from the entire coffee shop. What an amazing experience. He can enjoy the basic essence of being human and living in this second.
“The single ‘Bukan Salah Kopi’ is a special song, because it was truly done independently. From upstream to downstream. Starting from the song-making process from Dodo who chatted a little about meeting a stranger, becoming close because of a cup of coffee. Then Nana’s habit of sipping coffee every day, became the inspiration for this song. It is also very special because this time I was trusted to work on the mixing and mastering,” said guitarist Ismail Bonaventura (Bona).
Meanwhile, Bassist Riana Mayasari (Nana) added, they agreed to give the title ‘Bukan Salah Kopi’? , because it turns out that what makes coffee feel warm is not from the coffee, but from human interaction. Wherever we sip coffee, no matter how luxurious or simple the place we ‘have coffee’, it will still feel warm and delicious if there is interaction. Either with the closest people, or even with people we just met.”
In the concoction of “Bukan Salah Kopi”, Dodo, Bona and Nana also provide another unique and unusual surprise, where to strengthen the composition and arrangement, at the end of the song they embed crisp guitar strumming from fingerstyle maestro Jubing Kristianto.
“Listening to this song there is a feeling of comfort, warmth, and intimacy, as if hugging old memories. The lyrics are also enlightening, reminding us not to forget to talk or just say hello – to our family or friends. “ said Jubing.
Jubing admitted, this single, D’Cinnamons also gave a new experience. Usually when helping to fill the music for a recording, he play the guitar in the song. But this is the first time it was given the opportunity to make a short composition to be played at the end of the song only.
For that reason, Jubing hopes that “Bukan Salah Kopi ” can be an inspiring soundtrack to gather again and interact warmly, without the ‘disturbance’ of gadgets, while enjoying a delicious coffee dish. (*/)
