CREATIVE ECONOMY – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahudin Uno, expressed an optimistic view of the increasingly bright global economic trends and forecasts. In his remarks at the opening of IC Fest 2024 at the Creativity Innovation Building (GIK) UGM Bulaksumur Campus, Thursday (26/9/2024), Sandiaga emphasized that the creative economy is not only stable, but also has significant growth potential until 2026.
“Post COVID-19, the creative economy has shown impressive growth. In 2022, we hosted the World Conference on the Creative Economy in Bali. And next week, we will head to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to celebrate the World Conference on the Creative Economy there,” said Sandiaga.
Sandiaga said that the cultural and creative industry has generated annual revenues of 2.3 trillion US dollars globally, or around 3% of world GDP, and employs more than 50 million people. In fact, it is estimated that by 2030, the creative economy could contribute up to 40% of the world’s GDP.
Indonesia, with a population of more than 280 million, is well positioned to take advantage of this potential,” said Sandiaga.
He also said that in the first half of 2024, Indonesia had succeeded in shifting the creative economy to a digital economy, exceeding the growth target of 50%, with an achievement of 55.6% or around 750 trillion rupiah from the target of 1,347 trillion rupiah.
In the future prospects, the creative economy and creative industry are predicted to experience positive growth of up to 28%, especially in the film, animation, and video sectors. This year, for the first time, 60% of films screened in Indonesian cinemas are national films, indicating that Indonesian films are increasingly attracting the attention of audiences.
” 2024 and 2025 will be years of innovation and growth of the creative economy in Indonesia. We are currently in third place in the world, with a contribution of 8% to national GDP, compared to the world’s contribution of only 3% to GDP,” said Sandiaga.
He also highlighted that Indonesia has great potential in various creative economy sectors. If South Korea is known for its K-pop dramas and music, Indonesia excels in the “Drahor” or “horror drama” genre. In the world of music, Indonesia has “D-Kop” or Dangdut Koplo, which is the unique strength of this country.
“IC Fest 2024 will be the future of the creative industry. We are in GIK, the center of innovation and creativity. The future of the creative industry is in the hands of the younger generation, and we want to collaborate to bring Indonesia’s creative economy to the global stage,” said Sandiaga.
He hopes that the discussion and exchange of ideas during IC Fest 2024 can produce innovations and policies that support the development of the creative economy in Indonesia. “It is very important for the government to implement the right policies in order to shape the future of the creative economy globally,” concluded Sandiaga.
