ARTJOG KIDS is back to enliven the ArtJog 2024 event at the Jogja National Museum. Carrying the theme “Motif: Ramalan “, this program facilitates the work and activities of children aged 6-15 years to explore their imagination about the future.
This exhibition displays 71 works of art that have passed the curation from hundreds of registered participants. These works reflect various children’s interpretations of the future, ranging from technological advances, environmental changes, to social life.
One of the interesting ones is the work entitled “Dunia Masa Depanku” by Ace Alexon Hartono. This work depicts a world where humans live side by side with robots and sophisticated technology.
In addition to the exhibition, ArtJog Kids also presents various interesting activities such as art workshops, performances, and storytelling. This activity aims to provide space for children to learn and express themselves through art.
The public’s enthusiasm for ArtJog Kids this year is very high. This can be seen from the number of visitors who filled the exhibition area. The 2024 ArtJog Kids Art Exhibition is proof that art can be a place for children to create and express their imagination. This program is expected to foster children’s love for art and culture from an early age.
The peak of the excitement of ARTJOG Kids on Monday, July 15, 2024 took place with the awarding of the ARTJOG Kids Award for 3 child artists from 3 categories, namely: 6-8 years old, 9-11 years old, and 12-15 years old. This award is a form of appreciation from ARTJOG, not only for the award recipients but for all child artists who also showcased their works in ARTJOG Kids.
Bambang ‘Toko’ as ARTJOG Curator said that ArtJog Kids has been around since 2022 to realize the mission of inclusivity, by opening opportunities for children and adolescents aged 6-15 years to include their works in the selection process. This year, ARTJOG Kids showcased 71 works from 36 participants who passed the curation.
“ARTJOG Kids is held with the aim of facilitating children’s works and their activities at ARTJOG. If so far art festivals and biennales have only positioned children as spectators, ARTJOG Kids aspires to place children’s artworks on par with ‘professional artists’. said Bambang
Meanwhile, Najelaa Shihab as an Educator and Founder of Cikal School and Sekolah Murid Merdeka explained that the future is full of challenges that continue to change. Therefore, children will be faced with complexity in various aspects of life.
Therefore, it is very important for teachers and parents to equip them with future competencies, which can be developed, one of which is through art with a contextual approach according to the development of the times.”
One of the approaches in question is how the integration between art and technology still needs to be built further, wider, and more.
“Art and technology also provide a strong foundation in responding to global change. Art is not only a form of creative expression, but also a way to understand and respond to the world around us more deeply. Technology, on the other hand, provides tools to overcome technical challenges and create solutions. ” Najeela said
On the other hand, Heri Pemad as CEO of ARTJOG also stated, Integration between art and technology is actually not new, but there is still a lack of attention, and concrete steps between the two in creating something new, which has an impact on the surrounding funds. “. (*/Sulist Ds)
