300 Victims in Parang Tritis Beach Cause Jellyfish Stung Perbesar

DANGEROUS —  Visitors, both residents and tourists, are prohibited from swimming and are advised to be wary of the troughs on the South Beach. Remember, the characteristics of the South Beach are different from the North Beach area which has high waves and several beaches have sand troughs, especially at Parangtritis Beach. As a result, maritime accidents still often occur because tourists are determined to play in the water on the beach, on the other hand, they do not know the condition of the South Coast area which has many troughs.

Head of the  Regional Disaster Management Agency  Jogja , Noviar Rahmad, said that his party always provides information to all tourists who will travel to the South Coast. This information is conveyed either directly by officers or indirectly through warning signs and social media. The South Beach area is different from the North Beach area where the waves are high and in some places there are sand troughs. Especially at Parangtritis Beach, there are many sand troughs

“We urge tourists to obey the officers, pay attention to the signs that have been planted there, the beach waves and the unpredictable weather. Once again, don’t be fooled by the calm conditions on South Beach. In fact, if the waves are calm, there are troughs underneath. We have to “You can travel safely, especially paying attention to each other’s safety,” said Noviar

Noviar said that not only did he have to pay attention to the advice of the officers there, his party had also put up warning signs. If there is a trough, the team has actually put up a red flag pole, meaning you are not allowed to swim in that area. For this reason, tourists are asked to pay attention to and obey the signs that have been installed so that the marine accident that recently occurred which resulted in fatalities is not experienced by other tourists.

“Apart from putting up red flags, we also put up warning or prohibition signs. Actually, we also have quite a problem with the character of South Beach which is compared to other beaches. Not to mention, there are minimal officers who cannot occupy every meter, such as accidents. “Yesterday’s sea was one kilometer from the monitoring post,” said Noviar.

Not only  Noviar, who also serves as the Acting Head of the  Jogja Civil Service Police Unit , stated that through the DIY Special Rescue Unit, Satlinmas Rescue always carries out strict guarding at monitoring posts so that visitors do not go too far to the middle of the beach. These monitoring posts are awaited by officers who can immediately carry out rescue efforts if an incident occurs.

The party also appealed to visitors via social media to pay attention to the officers’ appeal. Moreover, currently it is just the season for blue jellyfish which have already stung 300 victims at Parangtritis Beach. The jellyfish on the South Coast are also somewhat different from the jellyfish that the general public knows. The jellyfish is in the form of a blue gel. If you find them on the beach, don’t touch them. If held hot, it can reach the heart.

“With the various potentials and different conditions of the South coast, please obey all existing advice. It is also very important for each visitor to maintain personal safety first by paying attention to the officers’ advice and obeying existing warning signs,” said Noviar.

Specifically for Parangtritis beach and Depok beach, as many as 69 officers are on standby 24 hours during holidays, while on weekdays there is a shift system because there are not too many visitors. The total number of monitoring posts is 7 Korwil main posts and 1 operations office with 17 auxiliary monitoring posts. Each monitoring post is equipped with safety equipment ranging from life jackets, ropes, surf boards, jet skis, boats, ambulances and medicines.
