CULINARY — After achieving success in its first edition in 2023, the French Gastronomy Week “French Flavor j’adore!” will be held again in Yogyakarta and throughout Indonesia on October 1 – 13, 2024. The event is organized by the French Embassy in Indonesia, the Institut français d’Indonésie (IFI), Business France Indonesia and in collaboration with Disciples d’Escoffier Indonesia and the Alliance française network.

The purpose of “French Flavor j’adore!” is to share the richness and diversity of French gastronomy, which has been a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2010, and to encourage exchange with Indonesian cuisine and products.

Francois Dabin as Director of the Institute Francis Indonesia explained that this event is a routine event held every year. Like last year, this event collaborates with many partners, such as restaurants, hotels, cafes and bakeries throughout Indonesia to promote the diversity of French cuisine in their places as part of the “Menu à la française” program.

In Yogyakarta, there are 15 restaurants offering French dishes or menus on 01 – 13 October 2024. However, the second edition of this event feels different and very special thanks to the presence of chef David Gallienne who is the winner of the “Top Chef France” cooking competition in 2020 and holds a Michelin star for his restaurant “Le Jardin des Plumes” in Giverny (France) –

“ The award is very prestigious in the culinary world and the opportunity to visit Yogyakarta is part of his visit to 4 major cities in Indonesia, namely: Jakarta, Makassar, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. ” said Dabin in a media release received by the editors on Monday (30/9/2024)

Dabin explained, The success achieved in the first edition of ‘French Flavor, j’adore!’ proves the interest of the Indonesian people in culinary arts. The second edition is no less interesting with the increasing participation from various groups and the presence of the world-renowned French chef, Chef Gallienne who visited Yogyakarta. ”

Then, while in Yogyakarta on Friday, (4/10/2024), Chef Gallienne will visit Beringharjo Market, visit to Prambanan and meet with students at  Vocational High School (SMK ) Berbudi Yogyakarta.

For the afternoon, Galienne returned to  Tentrem  Hotel  to prepare a Gala Dinner with 7 dishes together with 2 famous chefs from Yogyakarta: Chef Philip Walasary (Restaurant Kayu Manis, Hotel Tentrem), Chef Kamil (Restaurant “Mediterranea by Kamil” and “Masama by Kamil”).

The French  Gastronomy program for the week includes Wine Tasting (October 1), French product market (October 5), film screening (October 10) and culinary competition for vocational high school students from Yogyakarta (October 12).
